Know MoreOver the last decade the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has statistically remained almost the same despite dropping from 590 in the 90s to 488 in 2008/09, and now the latest 355 per 100,000 live births in 2022. While the decline in national average MMR appears impressive, the regional disparities show gaping inequalities. For example, a situational analysis done by UNFPA on the burden of maternal deaths and their distribution in Kenya (2014), found that 15 out of 47 counties accounted for 98.7 % of the total maternal deaths in Kenya.
